Sara Sorribes Tormo v Bernarda Pera Head to Head

This will be the second time that Sorribes Tormo and Pera will be facing off in a competitive encounter. Their first match came as recently as the Abu Dhabi Open earlier this year where Sorribes Tormo overcame a first set loss to defeat Pera in three sets to move into the the third round.

Sorribes Tormo Looking to Continue Excellent Run

It comes as no surprise Sorribes Tormo is looking to break into her career-best ranking having had the kind of run this season already.

It started at the Abu Dhabi Open earlier this year where she reached the quarter-final – having defeated Pera in the second round – but more joy was to follow at the Guadalajara Open earlier this month where she won her first ever WTA title.

In doing so, Sorribes Tormo came away with wins over Marie Bouzkova and Eugenie Bouchard at the fag end of the competition as well.

The Spaniard followed that up with a run to the semifinal in Monterrey, where a fighting loss to the eventual champion Leylah Fernandez put paid to her chances of doubling her tally count in a matter of a week but given her form and confidence, she could prove to be a hard nut to crack.

Pera Hoping to Stall Her Struggles…

…and struggles they have been for the American alright. It started with the second round loss at the Abu Dhabi Open to Sorribes Tormo but things have only worsened for her since then.

At the Gippsland Trophy in Melbourne she managed a win against the 644th-ranked Olivia Gadecki only to lose her next match. And then at the Australian Open, the world number 68 got past Angelique Kerber in her opener in a result that should have boosted her confidence but a defeat at the hands of Zarina Diyas in the second round meant it was back to the drawing board for the American.

Unfortunately, that drawing board hasn’t yielded in the kind of results she would have liked, with back to back defeats since then – one at the qualifiers of the Adelaide International and then in the first round of the WTA Dubai.

Can Pera turn things around against a player who has shown some excellent form so far?

Sorribes Tormo v Pera Prediction and Tip

Sorribes Tormo will be a huge favourite, with the Spaniard starting out at 4/9 and we reckon this shouldn’t be too difficult for her given her form.

Tip: Games Handicap Sorribes Tormo -3.5: 5/6 (bet365)
