Fiona Ferro v Saisai Zheng Head to Head
Their only previous match came at the 2018 Guangzhou Open and Ferro had won that in three sets.

While there have been a couple of early exits for Frenchwoman Ferro this season, she has also done well in two of the other tournaments she has participated in. It started off at the Australian Open where the 24-year-old made it to the third round, her best ever showing at this major.
Wins over Katerina Siniakova and Elena Rybakina, both favourites going into those two matches would have helped her confidence and that showed when she participated at her home competition in Lyon.
In Lyon, Ferro overcame three of her opponents to make it all the way to the semifinal before she fell to Victoriya Golubic in the last-four stage.
More recently, Ferro was put to the sword by Vera Zvonareva. Even there, the Russian was a 4/6 favourite but was taken to three sets including two tie-breakers to get past Ferro.
Ferro’s recent form makes her a solid competitor, especially in the early stages of a tournament like here but her opponent here is ranked just nine places away and could prove to be one to watch.

Can Zheng Use the Monterrey Turnaround
Zheng’s inability to play in the post-pandemic break period of 2020 looked to have made things difficult for her coming into this season but not too many would have imagined the level of difficulty she would have had to face.
The Chinese woman played in six tournaments across the first three months including the Australian Open but her struggles came to the fore when she lost in the first round at each one of them.
It was at her seventh, in Monterrey last week, where Zheng finally registered her first victory and then doubled the count with a 6-1, 6-3 rout of Lin Zhu in the second round. In the end, Zheng fell to Ann Li in the quarterfinal but the relief to have opened her account for the season would have been palpable.
Zheng would now hope to do something similar against a player who has shown decent recent form.

Ferro starts off at 4/6 to win this and given how poorly Zheng has gone about her business recently, we will have to back the Frenchwoman to win this.
