Jil Teichmann v Paula Badosa Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in the 2019 Seoul Open and Badosa had won that opening round encounter in straight sets.

Teichmann Continues to Flower

Since making a shoddy start to the season with back to back opening defeats at both, the Gippsland Open and the Australian Open, Teichmann has done well to shrug those losses away and do well over the next three tournaments she has participated in.

It started with a quarterfinal appearance at the Phillip Island Trophy which ran in parallel with the second week of the Australian Open itself and then saw Teichmann beat Kristina Mladenovic, Wang Qiang and Anastasija Sevastova at the Adelaide International. She finally fell to Iga Swiatek in the semifinal in that tournament.

It was at the Dubai International that Teichmann took her form to another level.

She made it as far as the semifinal there but more importantly got to that stage with victories over Petra Kvitova, Ons Jabeur and Cori Gauff, three of the biggest names in the tournament. In the end, Teichmann fell to Barbora Krejcikova but by then had given enough indication about her form – her current career-best ranking of 41 could be tested here as well.

Badosa Gunning for Consistent Results

A third round presence at the Abu Dhabi Open, and a semifinal at the WTA Lyon before this are two excellent results for the world number 71 but Badosa’s issues have been centred around her inability to string together strong showings, one after the other.

Like last season, Badosa showed sparkle at the Istanbul Open by getting to the semifinal there and then ran to the round four at the French Open. Those two results aside, however, Badosa’s performances left a lot to desire.

Something similar happened earlier this season when, to go with those results in Abu Dhabi and Lyon, Badosa also fell in the opening rounds at the Australian Open and St. Petersburg Open. The latter defeat came at the hands of Jelena Ostapenko, with Badosa losing 6-2, 6-2 in what was her last match before coming into this.

Can she now overcome a superior and an in-form opponent here?

Teichmann v Badosa Prediction and Tip

Teichmann’s form should make it easy for her and she should proceed to round two with a straight-set win here.

Tip: Teichmann to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
