Lorenzo Musetti v Michael Mmoh Head to Head

Musetti and Mmoh have never played each other before this opening round encounter in Miami.

Fast-Improving Musetti Breaks into Top 100

It was only in 2019 that Musetti began playing pro tennis and here we are about two and a half years on, the Italian has gone from being ranked 582nd in the world to breaking into the top 100 recently.

While consistency at all levels of tennis has been the key for Musetti, his breakthrough performance at the highest level came last week in Acapulco where, as a qualifier, he stunned Diego Schwartzman, Frances Tiafoe and Grigor Dimitrov to make it as far as the semifinal.

And while he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in that match, by the looks of things, a star has been born.

The 19-year-old has already gotten himself two finals berths in tournaments at the Challenger level this year and had won one Challenger event last season on clay.

What makes his performances even more spectacular this season is Musetti is typically a clay-court specialist, and yet, here he is, winning matches against top-notch players and qualifying for the Miami Masters on the dint of that.

As luck would have it, he kicks things off against a player ranked 181st, and if he wins this, will face the struggling Benoit Paire in the second round. Things, already are looking exciting for the teenaged Italian.

Mmoh’s Won Just One Match in 2021

The last main draw match that Mmoh won before the Australian Open this season, came at the US Open last year. Between those two Grand Slam competitions, Mmoh hasn’t played too much tennis either which makes it slightly difficult to assess his form but one thing can be certain, the former top-100 player has looked slightly rusty in the rest of this season.

He managed an Australian Open qualification through the qualifiers but has followed that up with opening round defeats at the Murray River Open and the Singapore Open.

Those losses, at the hands of Marcos Giron and Yoshihito Nishioka would have hurt but the fact he managed to win a round at the Australian Open and then managed to take a set off Nishioka should auger well for the American.

The question now is if he can push an in-form youngster hard on what isn’t his opponent’s most preferred surface.

Musetti v Mmoh Prediction and Tip

No surprises that Musetti starts off a heavy favourite at 4/9 to win this but we do reckon Mmoh could make it difficult for his opponent, even winning a set.

Tip: Mmoh to win a set – Yes: 4/6 (bet365)
