Mikael Ymer v Alejandro Tabilo Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2020 Davis Cup where Ymer overcame a set deficit to defeat Tabilo in three sets.

Ymer Coming Off Grand Slam Best

While Ymer was knocked out in the first round of the Montpellier Open, beaten by Jiri Vesely 6-1, 6-1, he would take a lot of heart from his performance at the Australian Open.

The Swede, who had earlier lost to Adrian Mannarino in his opener at the Murray River Open in the lead-up to the season’s first Grand Slam, went on to shock Hubert Hurkacz in his Australian Open opener. This was followed by a tough, four-set win over Carlos Alcaraz in the second round before which he went down in straight sets to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Ymer had struggled to get going in 2020 having won just four main draw matches all season. He will now look to add on to his Australian Open victories, in a bid to improve his showing from the previous season.

Can he knock his Chilean opponent off the perch in this one?

Tabilo Hoping to Break into Top 150

The Chilean has never been on the better side of being a top-150 player and he enters this main draw for the first time in his career. The 23-year-old was knocked out in the first round of the Australian Open qualifiers and strangely hit a wall of struggle which saw him fail to get out of the first round of two Challenger competitions as well.

In fact so horrendous was his form that Tabilo won a sum total of nine games starting at the Australian Open qualifiers.

His turnaround came at the second Antalya Challenger he featured in where he made it to the quarterfinals, and then at the semifinal of the Conception Challenger.

Promoting himself to the ATP circuit after that, Tabilo went through the qualifiers in Santiago to make it to the main draw and win his opener before qualifying for this competition for the first time ever with a couple of qualifier victories.

Can he now push Ymer hard?

Ymer v Tabilo Prediction and Tip

Ymer will be a favourite and if the bookmakers are to be believed, his odds of winning (4/6) look tempting enough.

Tip: Ymer to win: 4/6 (bet365)
