Jelena Ostapenko v Kirsten Flipkens Head to Head
The pair have met three times before and the Belgian leads their head-to-head series by two matches to one. Ostapenko won their most recent meeting at Wimbledon in 2018, but Flipkens won their two matches in 2015, in Istanbul and Vancouver.

Ostapenko, Searching for Elusive Form
Ostapenko’s elusive search for the form that made her French Open champion in 2017, and a Wimbledon semi-finalist the following year, continues.
It has been 18 months since she last won a tournament. and there have been few signs recently that she is going to snap that long sequence anytime soon.
However, in reaching the second round here, she has at least matched her best result of 2021 so far, although her first round victory on Wednesday over the Chinese wildcard, Wang Xiy, was not without its difficulties.
The Latvian took the first set, and all seemed to be going according to plan when she broke Xiy early in the second. However, the Chinese broke back and it eventually went to a tie-break, where Ostapenko proved the more fallible of the pair on serve.
The two swapped breaks early in the third, but then Ostapenko broke again, and this time took control, underlining her superiority with another break and then serving out to love.

Flipkens, Given Two Helping Hands in Florida
lFipkens has enjoyed two slices of luck in Miami so far.
First, having been beaten by the Spaniard Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov in the second round of qualifying, she got her chance to compete in the main draw as a lucky loser. And then fortune smiled on her once more when her first round opponent was forced to scratch, meaning that she earned a bye through to play Ostapenko.
She will have been grateful for the help of fate because it means that she is now in the second round of a tournament for the first time since the first event she played this year, in Abu Dhabi, where she was beaten by Sofia Kenin.
Since then. she lost in the first round in the Australian Open to Venus Williams and, more recently, at the same stage in St. Petersburg, where she was defeated by Katerina Siniokova.
Flipkens has found memories of Miami – she achieved her best ever result in a WTA 1000 tournament when she reached the quarter-finals here. But that was eight long years ago.
Ostapenko v Flipkens Prediction and Tip
This is a match between two players who are both out of form in 2021 so far. However, Flipkens has already enjoyed two slices of good fortune in Miami, and sometime her luck has to run out.
Tip: Ostapenko to win: 1/4 (bet365)
