Alexander Zverev v Emil Ruusuvuori Head to Head

No previous history between the pair. This will be their first meeting of any kind.

Zverev Wins Acapulco

As destiny would have it, Alexander Zverev deservedly won the Mexican Open crown last week in a tense seesaw final against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Having finished runner-up to Nick Kyrgios in 2019, and reaching the semifinals the year before that, the German summoned the moxie and precision required to defeat the Greek 6-4 7-6. The closing moments of that match were symbolic of Zverev’s struggles in the match up having lost five times in a row to Tsitsipas before last Sunday.

With a title in the bag this current term, Zverev’s blossoming trophy cabinet is looking impressive. He now owns the most titles of any player born since 1994, and more importantly, maintains his record of winning at least one ATP tour title since 2016.

His attention will firmly shift to North America, where Zverev is the number three seed at the Miami Masters. With a staggering 23 players withdrawing from the event (five of those in the top 10), this is could be another great opportunity for Zverev to add to his trophy collection.

Zverev finished runner-up to John Isner at the 2018 Miami Open final, in what was the last match held in Key Biscayne.

Ruusuvuori Beats Alcaraz

Emil Ruusuvuori won the battle of Next Gen stars as he overcame a mid-match blip and a third set deficit to beat the prodigious talent of Carlos Alcaraz.

Ruusuvuori came out firing straight from the off, as he contained Alcaraz’s power hitting style in the opening set. The young Spaniard was able to hit only two winners in the first set as the Finn took control with an early break. After wrapping up the set 6-4, his level dipped massively in the second set.

Alcaraz secured two breaks of the serve to level the contest, and momentum was on his side. Ruusuvuori played catch up in the third set, as he trailed 3-1. But he managed to turn things around with an emphatic break back to love.

With the match destined for a tiebreak, Alcaraz cracked deep in the 11th game handing the Finn the initiative to serve out for the match after two hours and 13 minutes. Overall, Ruusuvuori fired 16 winners, and landed 71% of first serves in. Despite winning fewer total points, he won the most decisive ones to reach the second round of the Miami Open on his tournament debut.

Zverev v Ruusuvuori Prediction and Tip

After winning Acapulco, Zverev has finally offloaded the monkey on his back. We should see a swinging Zverev go for full blood in Miami this fortnight.

Tip: Zverev to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
