Roberto Bautista Agut v Lloyd Harris Head to Head

This will be a first meeting between world no.12 Bautista Agut, and South Africa’s in-form man Lloyd Harris.

Bautista Agut Has Reached Two Finals in 2021

For a player who has been thought of more as a clay-courter, Bautista Agut has been reveling playing on hard courts throughout his career. Only two of his nine career titles have come outside hard courts, and he came mighty close this year to add another jewel.

The Spaniard’s season began at the ATP Cup, where in the absence of their talisman Rafael Nadal, looked a shadow of the team that reached the finals at last year’s edition. Bautista Agut’s two singles defeats punctured Spain’s balloon.

With a compact schedule in Melbourne, his Australian Open campaign ended in the opening round when he fell to a shock first round defeat to Moldova’s Radu Albot.

But Bautista Agut managed to wipe his slate clean during the brief indoor swing in Europe where he advanced to his first final of the season in Montpellier. Only David Goffin – who played lights out during the week – beat him to the title.

He took his level up a notch in Doha in what was his second final outing of the 2021 season. The tireless 32-year-old saw off a formidable lineup (including Dominic Thiem and Andrey Rublev) to reach the championship match. Again, his pursuit for a 10th career title came to a screeching halt as he fell to an inspired Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Seeded seventh this week, he arrives in Miami after a second round loss in Dubai.

Harris Ends Qualifier Nava’s Run

There is always the tendency of in-form players getting caught cold in the opening round of tournaments especially when they face local qualifiers who have acclimatized to the conditions and surroundings.

For a moment it appeared Lloyd Harris was bound to face a similar outcome against the American qualifier Emilio Nava. After a tight opening set in which Harris won it, Nava roared back in the second to force a tiebreak. Both players served impeccably well (well beyond 80%).

Breaks were at a premium, and Harris who stayed patient and true to his ground strokes, saved a set point in the breaker before clinching it.

The big serving South African is sitting at a career-high ranking of world no.52 after a tremendous start to the season. Last week he came through qualifying at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, earning a career-best win over Dominic Thiem en route to the final.

Only the toast of men’s tennis right now – Aslan Karatsev – denied him ultimate glory.

Bautista Agut v Harris Prediction and Tip

Harris has been a tough draw this season for most of the top players. Bautista Agut, having received an opening round bye, will need to find his feet quickly to stave off the power-hitting South African. This should be an intriguing battle.

Tip: Harris to win a set – Yes: 8/11 (bet365)
