Jessica Pegula v Storm Sanders Head to Head
Pegula and Sanders have never played each other in a competitive match before this.

Pegula Turns Season Around after Abu Dhabi
When Pegula fell in the first round of the Abu Dhabi Open earlier this year, it didn’t look her season win-loss record would end up reading 15-5 at this stage. Two solid performances, at the Australian Open and the WTA Doha, have ensured that as the American now looks to take that form in a bid to improve on her Miami Open record.
Well, technically, by getting a bye into the second round of this tournament, Pegula has already bettered her previous showing in Miami but having never won a match here, she would love to get started here.
And the confidence should be sky-high, having made it all the way to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open before losing to fellow American Jennifer Brady and then following it up with that kind of a showing in Doha.
Starting out by winning three matches in the qualifiers there, Pegula ran through Wang Qiang, Jelena Ostapenko and Karolina Pliskova to march into the last four where her wings were finally clipped by Petra Kvitova.
She defeated Pliskova yet again in Dubai on her way to the quarterfinal but a solid showing from Elise Mertens ended her run at that stage.
The hard-hitting Pegula should have no issues in this one by the looks of it.

Sanders Dismantles Cocciaretto
26-year-old Sanders is showing signs of blooming late in her career, having reached 203rd in the world before the start of this week which was just four spots away from her career-best. And a win in the first round here against Elisabetta Cocciaretto has meant she would have broken into the top 190 of the rankings when they are released next week.
It wasn’t a straightforward win for Sanders, who had gone into the encounter at 8/5 odds to upset her Italian opponent. In little less than two hours, Sanders defeated Cocciaretto 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 to seal her second round berth against Pegula.
Sanders had come into this tournament having played in the Adelaide International where she made it to the main draw with two wins in the qualifiers. The Aussie followed it up with a win over fellow Aussie Ajla Tomljanovic and then stunned Yulia Putintseva to carve out a place in the quarterfinals for herself.
While she fell to Belinda Bencic in that encounter, she seemed to have done enough to carry forward the momentum into Miami.
Jessica Pegula v Storm Sanders Prediction and Tip
Pegula’s form has risen so sharply, she starts of a shockingly short 1/7 to win this second round encounter and 2/5 to do that in straight sets.
Tip: Pegula to win in straight sets: 2/5 (bet365)
