Schwartzman at Miami Best

More known for his exploits on clay – and he does have an excellent record on the red dirt – Schwartzman has now done well to go past his previous showing in Miami. Over the past seven seasons at the Miami Masters, the Argentine had never made it to the fourth round of the competition.

Here, with a first round bye, and then with victories over Yasutaka Uchiyama and Adrian Mannarino, Schwartzman has done just that.

The Buenos Aires winner from earlier this season will be even more pleased with the manner of his wins, having come back from losing his opener on the hard courts of the Acapulco Open two weeks ago to register crushing wins.

Uchiyama was sent packing 6-3, 6-3 while Schwartzman lost even lesser games than that in his third round match against Mannarino, coming through in an hour and 17 minutes for his 6-1, 6-4 victory. The Argentine didn’t face a single break-point all match, while getting past his opponent’s serve thrice.

Can he now stall the highly talented youngster in his path and make it to his second successive Masters quarterfinals having also done that in Paris late last year?

Korda Crushes Karatsev

Having gone into his third round match at 2/1 odds for a win, Korda tamed the recent toast of the tennis world, Aslan Karatsev in a manner that would take everyone sit up and take notice.

Korda flew past his Russian opponent 6-3, 6-0 in an hour and nine minutes, to relegate Karatsev to only his third defeat of the season. The American broke Karatsev five times in the entire match, including thrice in the second set to come through, having faced and saved two break-points of his own.

Aided by some wayward serving which saw Karatsev dish out four double-faults and win just 62% of the 52% of the first serves he got in, Korda also served a lot better on his second serve, as he won 62% of those points.

With Korda having beaten Radu Albot in his opener and overcome Fabio Fognini in the second round, this will be a very good chance for him to not just eke out a win over Schwartzman and make it to the last eight but also improve his ranking to may be even break into the top 70.

Schwartzman v Korda Prediction and Tip

Schwartzman continues to start a favourite – you would expect that out of a player ranked in the top 10 facing someone ranked 87th – but the match could be a lot closer given their respective records on hard courts. Expecting a three-setter.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 11/8 (bet365)
