Tsitsipas Good Form Continues

Stefanos Tsitsipas has been on a good run in the young 2021 season thus far. Winning both his matches at the ATP Cup, he made it to the final eight at the Australian Open where he defeated world number two Rafael Nadal after being down two sets to love, before a straight sets defeat in the semi-finals at the hands of Daniil Medvedev.

He had a good run at the Rotterdam ATP 500 making the semi-finals before losing to the in-form red hot Andrey Rublev who went on to win his fourth consecutive ATP 500 tournament.  Going for a record three-Pete at Marseille, Tsitsipas had an early exit losing in the quarters to Pierre-Hugues Herbert who went on to make the finals. Another good run at the Acupulco Open last week saw the young Greek make the finals and he looked in control against Alexander Zverev up 4-1 in the first set, but a turnaround of events saw the German win in two tight sets.

Tsitsipas has had a good season already, but knows he needs to start winning titles and will be hoping that Miami is the place where the trend changes, especially with the Big Three and Dominic Thiem absent.

After an opening round bye, Tsitsipas was clinical againt Dzumur and ended a tight three setter with Kei Nishikori 6-1 in the third.

Sonego Searching Consistency

It has been an indifferent season thus far for rising Italian Lorenzo Sonego who is seeded number 24 here in Miami. Sonego  come into the tournament with a 4-6 record for the year and will be looking make amends sooner rather than later.

The Italian, who stunned World No. 1 Novak Djokovic en route to the final in Vienna last year, won the Antalya Open title in 2019.Sonego’s best performance this season came in Montpellier, when he defeated Hugo Gaston and Sebastian Korda to reach the quarterfinal, before going down to David Goffin.

Sonego has played some crucial points and games this week and ensured he manages to make inroads into the draw. Fully aware that the road only gets more difficult here on, the Italian will look to  raise his level against Tsitsipas and continue as the season evolves.

Tsitsipas v Sonego Prediction and Tip

Both players have looked in good touch this week. Although Tsitsipas starts as a clear favorite, Sonego is capable of pushing the Greek. Expect a close match with Tsitsipas closing out a decider
