This will be the first meeting between the 20-year-old Canadian and the 24-year-old Spaniard.

Andreescu Edges Past Muguruza

A resurgent Bianca Andreescu fought back from a set down to defeat 12th seed Garbine Muguruza in the fourth round of the Miami Open on Monday to reach her maiden quarterfinal in Miami.

The 2019 U.S. Open champion struck 34 winners on way to a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over the two-time major champion. The win also ended Muguruza’s eight-match winning streak, which began at the start of the Dubai Open, which she won by beating Barbora Krejcikova in the final.

The World No. 9 Andreescu, who won three titles in 2019, including the U.S. Open, is playing just her third tournament since her return to tennis this year, following a knee injury, which kept her out of the entire 2020 season.

The first Canadian to win a Grand Slam singles title, Andreescu began the Miami Open campaign with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win over Tereza Martincova in the Round of 64.

She then needed two hours and 44 minutes to beat America’s Anisimova 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (2-7), 6-4 in the third round.

The marathon was followed by another grueling two-hour-and-11-minute battle against Muguruza in the fourth round.

Against the Spaniard on Monday, Andreescu saved six of eight break points and converted four of seven to win a third consecutive match in a tournament for the second time this season.

Earlier she had reached the semifinals of the Phillip Island Trophy by winning her first three, before falling to Marie Bouzkova. Three of those matches, including the semifinal, had needed a deciding set to decide the winner.

Sorribes Tormo Continues to Impress

Facing Andreescu in the quarterfinals will be the in-form Sara Sorribes Tormo, who knocked out 27th seed Ons Jabeur in a three-set thriller on Monday.

The Spaniard, who won the title in Guadalajara and reached the semifinals in Monterrey over the last two weeks, entered her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-1 win over the Tunisian.

This was a fourth straight three-set win for the 24-year-old, who came into the tournament with an 11-4 record this year.

Ranked 58th in the world, Sorribes Tormo began her Miami campaign with a 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 win over the United States’ Bernarda Pera in the first round. She then fought back from a set down to beat Australian Open finalist Jennifer Brady 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the second round, before beating 21st seed Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.

Against Jabeur, Sorribes Tormo converted five of six break points and saved five of 10 to score a win in two hours and improve to 15-4 this season.

Andreescu v Sorribes Tormo Prediction and Tip

Andreescu is slowly getting into the groove but she faces a player who has been in top form this month. Both will be tired, though, after the grueling three-setters they have been involved in this week, but both will be ready to give their everything in what promises to be another thrilling contest.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
