Bernarda Pera v Alize Cornet Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2017 Guangzhou Open where Cornet had overturned a first set loss to win and make it to the second round.

Pera Makes Underwhelming Start to Season
Pera enters this tournament on the back of a four-match losing streak, with a second round loss at the Australian Open starting out that run. She fell to Storm Sanders in the qualifying rounds of the Adelaide International and then lost her openers at both, Dubai and Miami.
All in all, Pera did overcome Donna Vekic in Abu Dhabi and Angelique Kerber at the Australian Open but her 3-6 win-loss record this year follows a poor end to the previous season.
That being said, Pera is more at home on clay having won seven titles on the ITF circuit on this surface as compared to just one on hard courts and another one on carpet. In fact, the American has made it to 18 ITF competitions finals on clay and the confidence from that should help her erase memories of the start to this season.
Unfortunately for Pera, she hadn’t had a great time on clay in 2020 but given the issues surrounding the pandemic, there were quite a few who had struggled to get going. She will hope to change things around this time around.

Cornet Yet to Win Back to Back Matches in 2021
As compared to Pera, Cornet has a better record this year with five wins and seven defeats going her way. That, however, wouldn’t please Cornet too much given she is yet to register successive wins in a single tournament this season, having featured in seven.
In two of them, Cornet has also lost in the first round.
In fact, the last time the Frenchwoman did that was at the US Open last year where she made it all the way through to the fourth round, following a solid showing at the Cincinnati Open as well.
On clay though, Cornet has a solid record with four of her six WTA titles coming on that surface. This includes tournament wins at Budapest in 2008, Bad Gastien in 2012, Strasbourg in 2013 and more recently in Gstaad in 2018.
Can she close this one out to resume her hunt for successive match victories?
Pera v Cornet Prediction and Tip
There isn’t much to choose between the two players with Cornet starting out at 4/5 while Pera at 10/11. It’s Cornet’s overall better form which makes her our pick for this one but only just.
Tip: Cornet to win: 4/5 (bet365)
