Kudermetova to Better Last Season’s Clay Record
It was bit of a chaos in the world of tennis – and at most other places – in 2020, with the pandemic disrupting lives and tennis schedules. What that did was to make it tougher for players who managed to feature in tournaments to plan their training and that resulted in some up and down performances.
Kudermetova, obviously affected by the pandemic as well, played in four matches on clay last season and lost three of them – her only win coming in the first round of the French Open.
This time around, there would be no such excuses. Kudermetova has had a decent start on hard courts as well, although she would have loved to do a lot better than she did in more recent times. Especially since her third round exit at the Australian Open, with her record plumetting to a miserly 3-5 over the last month and a half.
Her best performance of the season came at the Abu Dhabi Open where she made it all the way to the final but it remains to be seen if any of that counts for much as Kudermetova makes a switch over to clay.
The good news for the Russian is she starts off against a qualifier who primarily focusses on doubles.

Krawczyk Tries to Shift Focus
She isn’t ranked on the singles circuit and that’s because Krawczyk has virtually stopped playing singles tennis, opting to primarily focus on doubles. And she has found enough success to continue down that path, having finished runner-up at the 2020 French Open women’s doubles, losing to Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic in the final.
To go with that, Krawczyk has also won five other doubles titles, one as recently as the Adelaide International earlier this year while falling in the final of the Monterrey Open.
Which is why it was surprising to see her feature in the singles qualifiers and even more so when she overcame Kristina Kucova and Kateryna Bondarenko in those two rounds to make it to the main draw. Since the start of the 2020 season, she will now play in only her sixth singles match across the board.
And while Krawczyk would look to carry that form from the qualifiers over to the main draw against a player who hasn’t played on clay for a while, the step-up would be too much to handle for the American.
Kudermetova v Krawczyk Prediction and Tip
Kudermetova’s only concern in this match will be the shift from hard to clay courts but as far as opponents go, this is the best she could have hoped for.
Tip: Kudermetova to win in straight sets: 8/11 (bet365)
