Marie Bouzkova v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head

There have been two previous matches between Bouzkova and Tomljanovic and both have won one apiece. On clay, Bouzkova leads 1-0 after defeating her opponent at the Italian Open last year.

Bouzkova Continues Good Form

Bouzkova isn’t quite a clay court specialist, having won just two of her 12 ITF titles on red dirt but her form and momentum ensured she had little trouble getting past Timea Babos in her opening round match.

The world number 56 took an hour and 51 minutes to get past Babos in straight sets, despite falling 0-4 behind in the second set. Bouzkova, down two breaks, broke back in the sixth game of the second set, and while Babos then served for the set at 5-4, she was broken for the second time off the third break-point in that game.

With the momentum having shifted firmly in the favour of Bouzkova, she helped herself to four match-points at 6-5 before finally converting her fifth to march into the second round.

The first set had been a routine win for Bouzkova as she broke Babos at 2-1 and 5-2 respectively to complete the win.

Incidentally, by winning this one, Bouzkova has doubled her tally of main draw victories on clay. Can she make it two in a row now?

Tomljanovic Unfazed by McHale

An hour and eight minutes is all that Tomljanovic needed to go past Christina McHale in her opening round encounter against Christina McHale. The Aussie faced two break-points in the first game of the match, of which McHale converted the second to get an early break but that was the last time Tomljanovic lost serve.

In turn, she broke McHale back in the very next game, and then took a 4-2 lead with a second break of serve in the set. With her opponent running out of ideas and quickly at that, Tomljanovic wrapped up the set off her second set-point and then helped herself to three breaks of serves in the second set to complete the victory.

Tomljanovic, who had entered the competition on the back of four second round and two first round defeats this season, will now look to break that streak of having not won back to back matches in a competition since the Zhenzhou Open of 2019.

Up against her is a player who hasn’t won too much on clay, making this an interesting battle.

Bouzkova v Tomljanovic Prediction and Tip

Bouzkova holds a very slight edge given her better ranking and better form on hard court surfaces but on clay there isn’t too much to choose between these players. Expecting a three-set encounter for this one.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
