Albert Ramos-Vinolas v Ricardas Berankis Head to Head
Overall, these two players have met twice and won once apiece. The first of these meetings came on the indoor hard courts of the Stockholm Open in 2012 and Berankis won it in three sets. This was followed by a straight-set win for Ramos-Vinolas in the qualifiers of the Madrid Masters of 2015.

Ramos-Vinolas in Good Clay Form
There were quite a few who seemed to have written Ramos-Vinolas off after the kind of year he had in 2020. A clay court specialist, Ramos-Vinolas had played in seven matches on clay after the pandemic break and lost five of them.
Three of these defeats came in the first rounds of competitions; at Kitzbuhel, Rome and Hamburg, while winning his openers at the French Open and Sardinia.
Ramos-Vinolas has retaliated with a suitable reply to his doubters with a strong showing at the two clay court tournaments he has featured in this year. Starting with the Cordoba Open, Ramos-Vinolas reached the final of that competition, his first since July 2019, and more importantly overcame Diego Schwartzman in one of the previous rounds.
He followed it up with another strong showing in Argentina when he made it as far as the semifinal at the Buenos Aires Open.
And after a first round bye here, the Spaniard will look to go deep into this competition as well.

Berankis Upsets Pouille in Scrappy Opener
Berankis needed three sets and nearly three hours to get past the pre-match favourite Lucas Pouille in his opening round match. He won 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-5 to claim his second round berth.
It wasn’t an easy win though with Berankis getting broken five times in the entire encounter while getting past his opponent seven times in return.
Interestingly, Berankis had 12 opportunities to break his opponent’s serve and got through twice while Pouille converted the sole chance he got there. The second set saw both players take the lead with a break only to fritter away that advantage before the set went into a tie-breaker which the Frenchman to level things out.
The decider had similar ingredients too as Pouille broke first to go 2-1 up only to be broken back and Berankis then had a chance to serve for the match at 5-3 but dropped serve again. It was in the 12th game of the final set where Berankis got the better of his opponent’s serve to win his first match on clay for this season.
Ramos-Vinolas v Berankis Prediction and Tip
No surprises here as Ramos-Vinolas starts off a 1/4 favourite to win this and we are backing him to do that in straight sets to move into the last eight stage.
Tip: Ramos-Vinolas to win in straight sets: 8/11 (bet365)
