Arantxa Rus v Nuria Parrizas Diaz Head to Head

No previous matches have been played between the struggling Dutchwoman Rus and Spanish qualifier Nuria Parrizas Diaz.

Rus Registers Scrappy Opening Win

It’s not been the best of starts for Rus this season and despite a change in setting and starting out as a heavy favourite against a 132nd-ranked opponent, the Dutchwoman needed to dig deep into her reserves to eke out a win.

Rus was on court for two hours and 36 to carve out a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 result in her favour in a match which saw both players struggle with their serves. 19 of the 32 games had breaks of serves, and by the end it had become a case of just one hold in the entire third set deciding the winner.

Yep, you got that right – the final set was decided by Rus holding her serve in the seventh game, even as all the other nine games saw a break of serve.

And it is this lack of form which would be a problem for Rus, who had come into this tournament on the back of just two wins and six losses this season. That she now faces an opponent ranked that low might not matter too much if her serving continues to remain this shoddy.

Parrizas Diaz on a Rampage on the Lower Circuit

At 29, Parrizas Diaz can be called a late bloomer but her results on the lower circuit this year have been something to watch. A hard-court specialist, Parrizas Diaz is 14-1 on that surface in 2021, which includes three title wins already.

And if someone doubted her ability to make that transition on to clay, she has silenced them too, with a couple of solid performances already.

The Spaniard, currently at her career-best ranking of 171st in the world, needed two three-setters to come through the qualifiers and then unloaded a barrage of solidity on to fellow Spaniard Cristina Bucsa to come through in straight sets.

Parrizas Diaz won 6-3, 6-2 to advance and book a rare second round place at a WTA event. Can she run her out of form opponent close here?

Rus v Parrizas Diaz Prediction and Tip

We believe we could see bit of an upset here, with Parrizas Diaz edging out Rus. If you are looking for a safer bet, you could look at Parrizas Diaz to win a set as an option too.

Tip: Parrizas Diaz to win: 13/8 (bet365)
