Four Years Since an Evans Win
Clay has never been Evans’ favourite surface and that can be seen from the fact it’s been four years since he last won a match in the main draw of a competition on this surface.
Last year, for instance, Evans played at Rome, Hamburg and Roland-Garros and lost all three opening round matches. The season before that, he failed to qualify for the main draw of the Barcelona Open and ATP Estoril and lost in the first round at the Italian Masters and the French Open while in 2018 he didn’t play a single match on the surface.
Even in 2017, it wasn’t like he won too many. Other than making it to the third round of the Barcelona Open, Evans featured in four other first rounds – losing all of them.
In short, even for a player who only as recently as the February of this year won his maiden ATP title, things could very brutal in his very first match on clay for the season. Especially against a player who is a clay-court specialist and a special talent if experts are to be believed.

Musetti Sends Novak Packing
A bagel and a stick is what Musetti delivered to Dennis Novak in his first round match here, needing only 53 minutes to swamp past his opponent and make it to the second round. Musetti won 6-0, 6-1, breaking him six times in the match.
And while Novak had three opportunities of his own, Musetti managed to save all the break-points to register a crushing win.
Musetti, who is bit of a clay court specialist, having won all of his two Futures titles and one Challenger trophy on that surface, has already shown his capability to make that transition on to hard court surfaces earlier this year. The Italian started out as a qualifier at the Acapulco Open and went on stun Grigor Dimitrov, Frances Tiafoe and Diego Schwartzman to enter the semifinal of that event.
Later Musetti also made it to the third round at the Miami Masters, and will now start off here not just with a career-best ranking of 90 but also with oodles of confidence. That reflects in his odds for this match…
Evans v Musetti Prediction and Tip
It is very interesting to note that Musetti is a whopping 1/4 to win this as compared to 3/1 for an Evans win. We expect Musetti to rout his British opponent in this one.
Tip: Musetti to win in straight sets: 4/6 (bet365)
