Fokina v Ivashka Head to Head

No previous match has been played between Fokina and Ivashka before this one.

Fokina Scrapes Past Dzumhur

It took Fokina exactly two hours and three sets to carve out a first round win over Damir Dzumhur coming back from a tie-breaker down to win the next two, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the second round.

The start of the first set saw Fokina and Dzumhur exchange four breaks of serve, before the latter saved three break-points in the ninth game to push the set into a tie-breaker. Surprisingly, Fokina looked ill at sea in the tie-breaker and went down 7-1.

The turnaround came in the fourth game of the second set when Fokina broke Dzumhur and then made it 1-1 by breaking him again as the Bosnian served to stay in the set. The same pattern repeated in the final set, with the breaks of serve coming in the second and eighth game respectively for Fokina to complete the comeback victory.

This second round entry comes close on the heels of four such successive opening round wins for Fokina before this. His trouble has been his inability to progress much further than that this season.

Ivashka Looking at Clay for Turnaround

With just two main-level ATP tournaments played before this and only one win registered, Ivashka is looking at the clay court swing to turn things around for him. Unfortunately though, Ivashka is more of a hard court player, with all four of his Challenger and three Futures titles coming on this surface.

Which is also why he would be reasonably satisfied with his opening round workout that saw him get past Pedro Martinez in straight sets to seal his second round berth – something he has never done before this at the highest level on clay.

Ivashka ran off to a 2-0 lead with an early break, lost his serve in the sixth game, but then broke back twice to win the opening set. In the second, matters went to serve in the first eight games but even when Ivashka was broken in a crucial ninth game, he came back strongly to retaliate with a break in the next.

Pushing the set into a tie-breaker, Ivashka then rattled off to a 5-1 lead with two mini-breaks and sealed off the encounter easily.

Fokina v Ivashka Prediction and Tip

Fokina starts off a heavy favourite in this at 2/7 and is 8/11 to do that in two sets. Expecting an easy win for Fokina against a player who has typically struggled on clay.

Tip: Fokina to win AND Under 20.5 games in the match: 13/10 (bet365)
