Ash Barty v Paula Badosa Head to Head
No previous matches have been played between Australia’s Barty and the world number 71 Badosa.

After a gruelling first set against Shelby Rogers, Barty looked to be headed towards a win when she broke the American early in the second. And while she was broken back, Barty retaliated with another break of serve to take a 3-2 lead with the victory not too far away.
Rogers has exhibited all season she is one tough cookie, having registered some excellent wins and not only did she break back but also cracked open Barty’s serve yet again as the world number one served to stay in the set.
And those fighting qualities came to the fore yet again in the final set when Barty’s early break was neutralised by Rogers but the Aussie broke back, and then held on to her serve in the 10th game of the set to seal her quarterfinal berth.
In doing so, Barty has now won eight matches in a row, having earlier clinched the Miami Open title and then beaten Misaki Doi in the second round here following an opening round bye.
She will now face Paula Badosa who has cleared out the draw for her but is looking a dangerous proposition herself.

Badosa Eases Past McNally
Like Barty, Spain’s Badosa also took out an American player as she creamed Caty McNally in straight sets and in a mere hour and 17 minutes to reach the quarterfinals.
Badosa was broken early in the first set but came back in the very next to level the proceedings, and then broke McNally in the eighth game to wrest the initiative in what was turning to be a very absorbing contest.
In the second, it was Badosa who drew first blood only to be broken back by her American opponent who made it 3-3. Two more breaks of serves, however, ended the McNally resistance as the Spaniard came through 6-3, 6-3.
In defeating McNally, the Spaniard makes it to her second quarterfinal of the season after the Lyon Open earlier in March. There she had gone one better by reaching the semifinal; can she upset the Barty apple-cart to do the same here?
Barty v Badosa Prediction and Tip
A world number one and in-form, you would expect odds like the 1/5 on offer for a Barty win. Badosa, however, has shown her confidence is on the rise especially given how quickly she has switched from the hard courts to clay and we expect this to be a fighting contest.
