Lara Arruabarrena v Harmony Tan Head to Head

She has never seen the inside of the top 50 WTA rankings in the world but Arruabarrena’s love for playing in Bogota can be seen from the fact that out of the seven times she has played here, the Spaniard has made it as far as the semifinal on six occasions.
Arruabarrena had won this title in 2012 and reached the final in 2017 and 2018 as well, while last year she made it to the semifinal for the fourth successive time. Another win here will make it five. While that’s not quite Nadalesque in his love for the French Open, Arruabarrena can be proud of the way she has gone in Bogoto as well.
This time around she has had to it as a qualifier too. Starting out with a couple of double-bagels in the qualifying rounds, Arruabarrena then crushed Jessica Plazas 6-0, 6-1 in the first round before it looked like she had finally met her match in the second.
Taking on Jasmine Paolini, Arruabarrena lost the first set but she wasn’t one to give up. Not in Bogota, no.
The Spaniard rallied to come back from a set down to win the encounter 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 and book her place in the quarterfinal where she will face another qualifier.

Tan Makes Maiden WTA Quarterfinal
On the one side is a player who has made it to her seventh quarterfinal at the Bogota Open. On the other is Tan, who is in the maiden WTA quarterfinal of her career!
Tan, playing in her first clay court tournament of the season across any circuit, started out with a couple of qualifying wins, where unlike Arruabarrena she had to work really hard to get past her opponents.
In the first round here she then overcame Mihaela Buzarnescu in straight sets before shutting out Chile’s Daniela Seguel in the second. And while that was also a two-set win, she spent more than two hours on court.
The Frenchwoman broke her opponent thrice in the first set, including a crucial one while Seguel served at 4-5 and then again twice in the second to force a tie-breaker which she then clinched 7-3.
Can Tan get the better of an in-form Arruabarrena to add to her delight?
