Cristian Garin v Felix Auger-Aliassime Head to Head
Both of their previous meetings came on clay court surfaces, and both in 2019. It’s 1-1 on head to head.
The first match was played at the Buenos Aires Open where Garin had won in three sets before Auger-Aliassime tied the scoreline with a 7-5, 6-4 win over his opponent at the Rio Open that season.

Garin Winner in Santiago
Garin is a five-time ATP winner, all of which have come on clay including the Santiago Open last month.
He had earlier begun the season with a first round loss at the Delray Beach Open but what was more surprising was his opening defeat at the hands of Sumit Nagal at the Buenos Aires Open. That defeat that early on clay seemed to have shaken off some of his rust quickly enough for Garin to come back and win the title in Santiago the following week.
However, the Chilean number one then fell in his opener at the Miami Open to make it 0-3 in tournaments outside home, and it now remains to be seen how he resumes in this clay court swing.
Garin takes on a player ranked just two places below him but one without a record as strong as him on clay.

Auger-Aliassime Begins Work Under Nadal
Toni Nadal, Rafa’s uncle, has joined Auger-Aliassime’s coaching set-up and that should help him gain the kind of mental fortitude needed to help win ATP titles.
Auger-Aliassime’s done enough to exhibit his talent, having reached the finals of seven ATP tournaments but to have lost all of them could be an indicator of the need for him to work with someone like Nadal.
The Canadian’s record on clay isn’t as glowing as Garin’s but Auger-Aliassime has already made it to two finals on that surface – both of which came in 2019. Since then he has faced some of the toughest opponents in the world in those title-deciders including Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev, before he took Dan Evans earlier this year at the Murray River Open final.
He now plays his first match on clay for the season, and up against a player known for his solidity on that surface and having won just one match on that surface since the start of the 2020, it won’t be too easy for Auger-Aliassime.
Garin v Auger-Aliassime Prediction and Tip
Garin is a stunning 6/4 to win this one and one could be tempted to go with him in this encounter but if you want to play safe, there’s 4/7 for the Chilean player to win a set too.
Tip: Garin to win a set – Yes: 4/7 (bet365)
