Lorenzo Sonego v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head
Fucsovics has a 2-0 lead from their previous two main draw matches and has a 3-1 edge from all of their four previous meetings, which includes a qualifying round in Guangzhou and a lower level event in Todi, Italy.
Among the main draw wins, the Hungarian won on the clay court in Munich and hard court in Vienna, both in 2019. He also won the Todi contest on clay.
Sonego’s only win came in the third qualifying round in Guangzhou in 2016.

Sonego Keeps Improving
While we were writing the preview Lorenzo Sonego was playing the Cagliari semifinal against Taylor Fritz.
The World No. 34, who has a decent record on clay, was 6-7 in 2021 before the start of the Sardegna Open this week.
The winner in Antalya in 2019 and the runner-up in Vienna in 2020, Sonego had a slow start to 2021, losing in the first round in Melbourne-2 and the second round at the Australian Open, before reaching his first quarterfinal of the season in Montpellier.
Sonego defeated Hugo Gaston and Sebastian Korda to reach the last eight in Montpellier before he was beaten by David Goffin.
The quarterfinal exit was followed by a couple of first round defeats in Rotterdam and Doha before he ended the three-match losing streak with a second round win in Dubai, where he had a first-round bye. The 25-year-old, however, lost to Aslan Karatsev in the Round of 16.
Sonego reached the Round of 16 in Miami as well, losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The Italian right-hander, who has shown improvement with every tournament, reached the semifinals of Sardegna Open this week by beating Gilles Simon and Yannick Hanfmann in the Round of 16 and the quarterfinals respectively.
Sonego had reached the quarterfinals of the Monte-Carlo Open in 2019, beating Andreas Seppi, Karen Khachanov and Cam Norrie in the first three rounds. His run eventually ended with a last eight defeat to Dusan Lajovic.

Fucsovics Aims for Another deep Run
Facing Sonego in the first round will be Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics, who has been in tremendous form this year.
Ranked 40th in the world, Fucsovics is 13-5 in 2021 thanks to his run to the final in Rotterdam and quarterfinals in Doha and Dubai.
The Hungarian, who went 1-1 at Melbourne-2, won two dramatic five-setters against Marc Polmans and Stan Wawrinka at the Australian Open before falling to Milos Raonic in the third round.
In Rotterdam, the 2018 Geneva champion entered the main draw as a qualifier and then went to reach the final by beating Reilly Opelka, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Tommy Paul and Borna Coric. He lost the title clash of the ATP 500 to Andrey Rublev.
Rublev also knocked him out of the quarterfinals in Dubai and the Round of 32 in Miami. They were supposed to meet in Doha quarterfinals as well but Fucsovics had pulled out before the start of the match.
Can he meet Rublev again in Monte-Carlo? Not before the final, so the matchup seems highly unlikely.
Sonego v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip
Both have shown solid form this year, so expect this to be a good match. Fucsovics, will however, look to continue his dominance over the Italian.
Tip: Fucsovics to win in straight sets: 8/11 (bet365)
