Karen Khachanov v Laslo Djere Head to Head

There have been no previous matches recorded between Khachanov and Djere before this.

Khachanov Form Tapering Off

Having begun the season at the Great Ocean Road Open, Khachanov reached the semifinal, which went on to become his best ever performance of the season so far.

In the next two tournaments, Khachanov then won back to back matches only to lose the third – reaching the third round at the Australian Open and then a quarterfinal at the Rotterdam Open.

Over the two tournaments, the Russian then won the first match but then lost the second.

And he now moves on to the clay court swing where Khachanov’s record hasn’t been that great either. Having said that, he did make the fourth round of the French Open last season and was a quarterfinalist at Roland-Garros in 2019, both of which have been his top performances in Grand Slam tennis.

Can he now bring his A-game to this opener in Monte-Carlo?

Cagliari Finalist Djere Hoping to Continue Form

Both of Djere’s titles have come on clay at the time of writing this preview, and if he wins his final at the Sardegna Open, that would make it three. Even if he doesn’t go on to win it, however, Djere’s form does make him one of the players to watch out on the clay court swing.

He started off as a quarterfinalist in Buenos Aires, repeated that in Santiago but his best run has come in the lead-up to this competition. It is not just about making the final in Cagliari, it’s also about the wins he got.

It started off with a victory over Federico Gaio before Djere defeated John Millman, Lorenzo Musetti and Nikoloz Basilashvili, crushing the latter for the loss of just two games.

Djere has defeated Dominic Thiem and Juan Martin del Potro on clay, when both of them were ranked in the top 10 at that stage. Surely he can get a top-25 scalp here?

Khachanov v Djere Prediction and Tip

While Khachanov starts off as a favourite here, there seems to be nothing to choose between the two players with Djere’s 11/10 looking an attractive option. A three-setter can be expected.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
