Alexander Bublik v Jeremy Chardy Head to Head

There has been only one previous match between these two players that came earlier this season in Antalya. That semifinal was won by Bublik in a tough three-setter before he went on to concede the final to Alex De Minaur due to injury.

Bublik Proving Himself To Be Next Gen Of Consideration

The 23-year-old charismatic Alexander Bublik is yet to win a title on the tour, but has reached four finals, two of which were early this year.  Beginning the year in Antalya, Bublik won four matches on the trot to reach the final. However, an injury forced him to withdraw from the title clash after just two games in the match, handing Alex Di Minaur his fourth career title.

The Kazakh reached his second final of the year in Singapore in February,  but remained title-less after going down to Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in a three-set final. Despite pulling off an impressive win against Alexander Zverev in Rotterdam, it was an early departure for Bublik and so was the case in Doha and Dubai, including a three-set loss to Jannik Sinner after wining the first set 6-2.

Bublik looked good in Miami, and put up a strong showing in the fourth round against American Taylor Fritz to come back after losing the first set and pulling off a win to put him in the final eight. Against another in-form rising star Jannik Sinner, the Kazakh lost in the quarters capping a good first quarter of the year.

Bublik only played doubles at Andalucia Open this week but would have got a feel for the clay and will be ready to go here onwards on the slow dirt.

Resurgent Chardy Hoping To Continue Strong ’21 Run

French veteran Jeremy Chardy had a good start to the season, making the semi-finals of both the Antalya Open and the Melbourne ATP 250, before a first round loss at the Australian Open to none other than now nine-time champion Novak Djokovic.

He continued his season at the Rotterdam ATP 500 making the quarter-finals scalping David Goffin and losing a tight match to eventual champion Andrey Rublev. An uncomfortable hamstring saw him look out of sorts against Dan Evans in their Doha opener, but he was back in form at the ATP 500 in Dubai last week.

Chardy  did well in his opener against Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinalos in three sets setting up a second round match against rising Aussie Alex de Minaur, who he also scalped in another decider. Up against rising Russian Karen Khachanov, it was yet another comeback victory for the Frenchman leading him to a quarter-final against Canadian Denis Shapovalov.

Although he did not succeed against Shapovalov and lost early to American Dennis Kudla, the 34-year-old Chardy is in the midst of a great season rekindling memories of the form that once saw him ranked in the top 25 in the world.

While clay may not be his favorite surface, Chardy is bringing form and confidence with him to the slower surfaces and will hope to further his resurgent season.

Bublik v Chardy Prediction and Tip

It has been a good start to the season for both players. While Bublik has continued to prove that he is worthy of being in the same league as the rest of the Next Gen, Chardy has ensured hit a second wind and ensured that he is yet to be written off on the circuit.

An exciting clash ahead, but expect the young Kazakh to prevail in three sets.

Tip: Bublik to win in three sets: 15/4 (bet365)
