Pella Coming off 2019 Monte-Carlo Quarter-Final
The last time he played in Monte Carlo, Pella reached the quarter-final, which represents his best ever performance in a Masters’ tournament. That was the same year he won his first and, to date, only senior ATP title, at the Brazil Open in Rio.
However, since losing in the second round of the French Open last October, he has played very little tennis.
He appeared in two matches for Argentine at the ATP Cup, beating Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan, but losing to Andrey Rublev,
Pella was then beaten in the first round of the Australian Open, losing to Borna Coric in straight sets, and did not reappear on tour again until the Sardinia Open last week. There he suffered another first round exit, this time at the hands of Egor Gerasimov of Belarus.

Pouille Gets a Wildcard in Monte Carlo
Despite the fact that Pouille reached the semi-finals in 2017, he has had to rely on a wildcard to gain entrance to the tournament this time.
That same year he won three ATP titles and picked up another the following year, but since then his form and performances have steadily declined, and he has gradually slipped down the rankings.
Pouille now alternates between the ATP senior and Challenger tours and opted not to go to Australia this year, choosing to stay in Europe instead. However, he has not got beyond the second round of any tournament he has entered since then.
Last week he competed at the Andalucía Open, but was beaten by the Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis in a tight three-set first round match. The question now is whether he can turn things around against a player who prefers clay as his favourite surface?
Pella v Pouille Prediction and Tip
This is a tight match to call, because neither man is in good form going into the tournament. However, based on world ranking alone, the Argentine will start the slight favourite.
Tip: Pella to win: 4/5 (bet365)
