Grigor Dimitrov v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head
They are 2-2 at the top level and 1-1 at Monte-Carlo Masters. They also played at a junior level in 2010, which Dimitrov won in straight sets. Dimitrov won their first battle in Stockholm in 2013, while Struff won their first meeting in Monte-Carlo in 2017.
The Bulgarian got his revenge in Monaco two years later, but lost their most recent matchup in Rome in 2019. Both of Struff’s wins have come in three sets, while Dimitrov has always won in straight sets.

Dimitrov Aims for Another Deep Run
2018 Monte Carlo Masters semifinalist Grigor Dimitrov will begin his 2021 campaign on Monday. The Bulgarian has played in four tournaments this year, falling in the quarterfinals three times and making a first round exit in Miami.
The World No. 17 is 8-4 in 2021. He was 18-11 in 2020, which included runs to the semifinals at ATP 500 Acapulco and ATP 250 Antwerp. He also reached the quarterfinals of the Rome Masters and the Round of 16 at Roland Garros.
This year, he began the season at the Murray River Open, and reached the last eight by beating Aussies Andrew Harris and Alexei Popyrin in the first two rounds, but was stunned by World No. 80 Corentin Moutet.
At the Australian Open, the Bulgarian defeated Marin Cilic, Alex Bolt, Pablo Carreno Busta (who retired after 6-0, 1-0) and Dominic Thiem to reach a fourth quarterfinal in Melbourne, but lost to Aslan Karatsev after being hampered by a back injury.
The eight-time ATP winner then reached the quarterfinals of the Mexican Open by defeating Adrian Mannarino and Miomir Kecmanovic in the first two rounds, but fell to 19-year-old Lorenzo Musetti.
In his last tournament so far in Miami, Dimitrov was defeated by Cam Norrie in the first round in straight sets.
A 15-time ATP finalist, Dimitrov won four titles in 2017, which included the ATP Finals title.
But since the highs of 2017, the Bulgarian has struggled to reach finals. He did reach the summit clash in Rotterdam in 2018, but was outplayed by Roger Federer in straight sets.
At the Monte-Carlo Masters, Dimitrov reached the quarterfinals in 2013 and 2015 and the semifinals in 2018. He could only reach as far as the third round in 2019, falling to Rafael Nadal in straight sets.

Mixed Year for Struff
Facing Dimitrov will be World No. 41 Jan-Lennard Struff, who is 7-8 in 2021.
The 30-year-old German right-hander began the season with a quarterfinal finish in Antalya and by winning two and losing one at the ATP Cup.
The loss to Russia’s Andrey Rublev in the semifinal of the ATP Cup was followed by three first round defeats, as Struff fell to Christopher O’ Connell at the Australian Open, Peter Gojowczyk in Montpellier and David Goffin in Rotterdam.
He snapped the four-match losing streak in Dubai, beating Mikhail Kukushkin the first round, but lost to Dennis Shapovalov in the next.
In Miami, Struff, who received a first-round bye, reached the third round with a win over Ricardas Berankis but couldn’t find a way past Roberto Bautista Agut.
Yet to reach an ATP final, Struff comes to his sixth Monte-Carlo Masters with a quarterfinal finish in Cagliari this week.
The German saved five match points to beat Joao Sousa in the first round, and eased past Briton Liam Broady in the second round but fell to Nikoloz Basilashvili in the quarterfinal. He has never gone past the third round in Monaco.
Dimitrov v Struff Prediction and Tip
Going by their past contests, it is going to be another close one. While Dimitrov is the seeded player he will be expected to win, but Struff has already had some experience on clay this week in Cagliari and could bother the Bulgarian.
Tip: Struff to win a set – Yes: 4/7 (bet365)
