Misaki Doi v Nao Hibino Head to Head
On the WTA circuit this will be their fourth meeting and third in main draws. Doi had won their first two matches in 2016 and 2017, while Hibino won the next two including one in the qualifying rounds.
They had also once played on the ITF circuit where Hibino had got past Doi.
Interestingly, barring one match, all have been straight-set wins.

Doi Slowly Inching Back to Top-50
In 2018, Doi had hit a bit of a rut in her career, having fallen to 328th in the world, a far cry from her career-best ranking of 30th. Slowly and steadily she has returned and started winning matches over the last three years and touched 75th in the world recently.
The Japanese player enters this competition ranked 77th and bidding to break into the top 75 with a decent draw at least till the quarterfinals.
Doi, who had played in Charleston last week too, made the second round there with a win over Yaroslava Shvedova but was then sent packing by world number one Ash Barty in the second.
That has been the story of the season for Doi, who has won her opener at five of the tournaments she has played in – including the Charleston Open last week – but found it difficult to proceed further.
Can Doi do that this time time?

Hibino in Strife This Season
Hibino has got a direct entry at six WTA competitions this season and has lost in the first round at five of them. In fact, since winning her opener at the Australian Open against Astra Sharma, Hibino has lost six matches in a row including one in the first round at the Charleston Open last week to Ludmilla Samsonova.
The new WTA ranking system has come at a good time for Hibino who has been in strife since tennis returned to the fold after the pandemic break last season.
In the five 2020 tournaments she had played since August last year, Hibino showed what she is capable of in Strasbourg where she made the semifinal but other than that there were early losses galore.
The Japanese player is still some way away from playing at her best, and the former world number 56 will need confidence from her recent record against Doi to dish out a performance to test her opponent..
Doi v Hibino Prediction and Tip
Not surprisingly, it’s Doi who starts off a 4/7 favourite and 6/5 to win it in straight sets. Continuing with the trend on show between these two, we are expecting another straight-setter, with Doi to win.
Tip: Doi to win in straight sets: 6/5 (bet365)
