Lauren Davis v Danka Kovinic Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came as recently as the Guadalajara Open earlier this year at which Davis was able to carve out a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kovinic and proceed into the quarterfinals.

Davis Sends Coco Away
Davis made it as far as the third round last week at this very venue before she fell to fellow American Cori Gauff. This time around she has begun with a win yet again, crushing the hopes of another American player, Coco Vandeweghe in straight sets to march into round two.
Having come into Charleston last week with no wins on clay since her first round victory at the 2019 French Open, Davis looks to have turned the corner on this surface for now. A straight-set victory over Madison Brengle was followed by a shock victory over Sofia Kenin in the second round last week.
And while she lost to Gauff, Davis had come into this encounter against the former world number nine as an overwhelming favourite.
It turned out to be a cagey affair, with neither player able to run away with the match. Davis’ one extra break of serve, two as opposed to getting broken once, turned out to be the difference as she registered a 7-6 (3), 6-4 win against a player who hasn’t won a match this season.
Can she now overturn Kovinic’s solid form?

Kovinic Makes it 6-1 on Clay This Year
A finalist at the Charleston Open last week, Kovinic continued from where she had left off with a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the first round over Viktoriya Tomova. The match lasted 80 minutes and saw both players drop serve a few times before Kovinic came through.
Kovinic took a 2-0 lead only for her to lose her own serve in the very next game, a long one that saw six deuces and five break-points. Another break of serve, however, in the sixth game proved to be a decisive one and she pouched the first set.
The script of the second set began in a similar fashion as Kovinic again went 2-0 up only to drop serve and get tied at 2-2. There was no stopping her confidence though as Kovinic then broke twice and then wrapped up the match with a fourth break of the set.
She will now be up against a player who has beaten her recently but on a hard court surface – can she avenge it on clay?
Davis v Kovinic Prediction and Tip
No surprises here as Kovinic starts off a favourite at 8/13 but Davis could spring a surprise given her own form and we like her odds of 13/10 as a result. Going with a Davis victory.
Tip: Davis to win: 13/10 (bet365)
