Fabio Fognini v Filip Krajinovic Head to Head
There have been two matches played on the ATP level and Krajinovic has won both times including once on the clay courts of Hamburg in 2014 and one slightly more recently in 2019 at the Basel Open. They had also played once before on the Challenger circuit in 2012 where Fognini had edged out Krajinovic in three.

Having not had the best of starts on clay this season, defending champion Fognini has now won back to back matches in straight sets here in Monte-Carlo.
The winner of the 2019 edition of the Monte-Carlo Masters, Fognini followed up his straight-set drubbing of Miomir Kecmanovic with an easy win over Jordan Thompson of Australia in round two.
He needed an hour and 22 minutes to get past Thompson 6-3, 6-3 and make it to the third round. The Italian was off to a flier with back to back breaks of serves that gave him a 4-0 lead in the opening set, and while he lost his own serve at 2-5, he soon broke the Aussie again to clinch the set.
The second set was way more straightforward for Fognini, who broke his opponent to take a 3-1 lead and then never faced a break-point in the set to wrap up the encounter.
Fognini, who has had a mixed season so far with a 9-7 win-loss record in 2021 including these two victories here at the Monte-Carlo Masters, will now face his first real challenge.

Krajinovic Routs Argentine Clay-Courter
Juan Ignacio Londero was never expected to be in the main draw of the tournament, having lost in his second qualifying round but a last-minute withdrawal of Daniil Medvedev allowed him that opportunity as a lucky loser.
More vitally, like Medvedev, even Londero was given a first round bye but that’s where his luck ended. Because an in-form Krajinovic, who had earlier routed Nikoloz Basilashvili in his opener, crushed the Argentine in that second round match 6-0, 6-3 to seal his place against Fognini.
Krajinovic needed a mere 55 minutes to win the match including a 20-minute long first set in which he lost just eight points.
Londero managed to break Krajinovic in the very first game of the second set but then dropped two serves in a row without getting any opportunity to break back.
What now needs to be seen is if the Serb can make things difficult for a player who not only relishes playing on clay but has also defeated some of the best at this venue.

While Fognini’s overall record makes him a favourite, his form this year and Krajinovic’s solid start even things up slightly. Backing the Serb to cause an upset in this one.
