Stefanos Tsitsipas v Cristian Garin Head to Head
These two have faced off just once on the senior ATP level and Tsitsipas had won that match on the clay courts of the Hamburg Open in 2020. Before that, in 2018, they had also met on the Challenger circuit, where Garin won in straight sets.

Following a first round bye, Tsitsipas was drawn to take on Aslan Karatsev in his first match on clay for the season. Not the easiest of match-ups given his Russian opponent has had a season to remember and started off this competition with a solid win over Lorenzo Musetti.
Tsitsipas was stretched for a while but in the end, he registered a comprehensive enough win to give him the confidence going into the rest of the tournament.
Needing an hour and 25 minutes, Tsitsipas came through 6-3, 6-4 to seal his third round place. What was even more impressive was Tsitsipas was quite clinical on his serves and served each of his four break-points even as he broke Karatsev twice in the process.
The Greek player had entered this tournament on the back of a quarterfinal exit at the Miami Masters, which also finishing a losing semifinalist at the French Open last year, on clay.

Garin 6-1 on Clay This Season
A winner at the Santiago Open earlier this year, Garin looks to have left the Buenos Aires Open opening defeat to Sumit Nagal way behind. His real test was to always come in a competition like this, having never done too well in clay court Grand Slam and Masters competitions before this.
Garin has already surpassed his best showing on such tournaments on clay but more vitally enters this third round match with wins over Felix Auger-Aliassime and John Millman in his first two rounds.
After sending Auger-Aliassime packing in the opener, the Chilean world number 24 crushed Millman 6-1, 6-4. He needed an hour and 41 minutes, and helped himself to 16 break-points, breaking his opponent four times.
In return, he was broken just once and that came after he had taken a 4-0 lead in the opening set.
His third round opponent might not be the easiest – and that’s an understatement by itself – but with his confidence on clay, Garin will be a hard nut to crack.

Tsitsipas is 3/10 to win this but this could be a fighting match with Garin having a chance with the games handicap.
