Alexander Zverev v David Goffin Head to Head
On the ATP tour, they have faced off three times and Zverev is 2-1 on head to head. Both of those wins for Zverev have come on clay – at Munich in 2016 and Rome in 2018. Goffin had won on the grass of Halle in 2019.
They have also faced off on the Challenger circuit (2014) and the Hopman Cup (2018) and both matches were won by Goffin.

Zverev Slams Past Sonego
Playing his first match on clay since his fourth round exit at the French Open, Zverev showed no signs of rustiness in getting past Lorenzo Sonego and make it to the third round.
After a first round bye, Zverev broke early in the second round to take a 3-1 lead but then dropped his serve in the seventh game to allow Sonego a re-entry into the match. Unfortunately, not for long.
The German broke right back to take a 5-3 lead and then served it out to win the set.
The two players then exchanged service breaks in the first two games of the second set, but with things moving on serve till the sixth game, a close second set looked to be in the offing. Zverev, a semifinalist at the 2018 edition, stormed ahead, breaking his opponent twice more from there on to grab the match and claim the third round place.

Goffin Takes Care of Cecchinato
After a three-set win over Marin Cilic, Goffin continued to prosper in the tournament with a straight-set rout of clay court specialist and former world number 16 Marc0 Cecchinato in the second round.
Goffin, who had blanked Cilic 6-0 in the final set of his opener, made it two bagels in as many matches as he cruised past Cecchinato 6-4, 6-0 to set up this meeting with Zverev.
In a match that barely rose to levels expected before it began, Goffin was in control of the encounter from the very beginning as he broke Cecchinato in the third game. The Belgian then held on without any trouble except while serving for the set when he endured two break-points, before winning the set off his first set-point.
And once he had done that, Goffin went on and broke his opponent thrice more to seal a comfortable second set.
