Ons Jabeur v Nao Hibino Head to Head

Jabeur and Hibino have faced each other only once in the past and it was the Tunisian, who beat Hibino in two close sets at the French Open in Paris last year.

While it was relatively a close contest between the pair, Jabeur has matured a lot since then and that’s why she is expected to annihilate her struggling adversary in Charleston.

Jabeur Destroys American Qualifier in Round of 16

Jabeur, who likes to slide on her favourite surface, red clay, faced 20-year-old qualifier Alycia Parks in the second round of the MUSC Health Women’s Open. While, there’s no doubt that the 26-year-old from Tunisia loves the clay courts, she wasn’t expected to put up such a stellar show against Parks.

Indeed, Jabeur was nearly perfect in all the departments of the game as she never allowed her opponent to get in any sort of rhythm throughout the match. In the end, it was all too easy for her as she cruised through to a lopsided 6-4, 6-0 to book her place in the quarterfinals.

There’s no denying the fact that Jabeur has made rapid strides on clay. From reaching the round of 16 of the French Open in 2020 to making it through to the semifinals of the Volvo Car Open in Charleston last week, her game on the slower courts has certainly improved by leaps and bounds.

With wins over former World No. 11 Alize Cornet and American teen prodigy Coco Gauff last week, Jabeur also proved that she isn’t scared of taking on the big names of women’s tennis. Surely, she is among the most improved players on the women’s circuit right now and has the game and the ability to end her title drought this week in Charleston.

Hibino Rolls Over Di Lorenzo in Round 2

Jabeur’s opponent in the quarterfinals is the Japanese Nao Hibino, who has experienced her share of troubles before the start of the ongoing WTA tournament in Charleston. Despite possessing the talent, skills and the temperament to defeat Grand Slam champions, Hibino’s form had deserted her in 2021. A lot of people don’t remember that she had beaten former US Open winner Sloane Stephens and ex-French Open champ Jelena Ostapenko in 2020.

But, somehow Hibino managed to turn the tide in her favour in Charleston. In the first round, Hibino outperformed her compatriot Misaki Doi and then followed it up with an imposing win over Francesca Di Lorenzo of the United States in the second round.

Certainly, Hibino’s performance against the American was top class as she dictated the terms of play from the outset. In reality, the Japanese was on a roll, making fun of her rival at times. A similar performance could lead her in the semis on Friday.

Jabeur v Hibino Prediction and Tip

Jabeur, who is bidding to claim her maiden WTA title, is the firm favourite in this clash. She is expected to complete an easy win over Hibino before booking her spot in the last 4 of the tournament.

Moreover, Hibino’s lack of form could make things much comfortable for her as the Japanese player isn’t expected to put up a fight at all.

Tip: Jabeur to win in straight sets: 2/5 (bet365)
