Serrano and Tauson have never faced each other before on the WTA tour. In fact, it has been billed as an intriguing battle of two rising stars, both teenagers, and the fans would be expecting some fireworks from the pair on the court.

Serrano, a 19-year-old from Colombia, has a knack for playing her best tennis when she has her backs to the wall. In fact, the rising Colombian star isn’t new to adversity in the world of tennis.
As an 11-year-old, she was sent to a tennis academy in Florida, away from her parents, where she was put up with a pair of girls, who couldn’t understand her language and she couldn’t understand theirs. That day, she cried a lot and wanted to return to her country, but her father persuaded her to be patient and strong at the same time. And that’s what she did.
Six years later, by the time she turned 17, Serrano was the 2019 US Open girls’ champion and junior World No.1. However, her big breakthrough came this month, when she won her maiden WTA title in Bogota. Serrano hasn’t looked back since and is on a seven match winning streak across two continents at the moment.
Serrano, who is known for her ability to retrieve balls from the baseline, has continued her rich vein of form in Charleston this week. In the first round, she overpowered Poland’s Magda Linette in three grueling sets before showing the world that she doesn’t know how to quit on the court in the second round.
Serrano’s opponent Cristina McHale was all over her in that contest, after all, she had already won a set and was leading in the second, but Serrano fought back like only she could have. Ultimately, her grit led her to a 2-6, 7-6, 7-6 win over McHale, which gave her a place in the quarters.

Tauson Sends Australian Tomljanovic Packing
Serrano’s rival in the quarterfinals is an 18-year-old, Clara Tauson, who has been equally impressive during her sojourn in Charleston. Certainly, the Dane was so good in her second round clash against the talented Ajla Tomljanovic that she literally manhandled her on court.
Tauson’s show of dominance started as soon as the opening set began. Tomljanovic had no clue whatsoever about how to handle the barrage of winners coming from the racquet of Tauson.
If that wasn’t enough, Tomljanovic was also having difficulties in reading the Copenhagen native’s serve and that’s why Tauson was able to hold on to her serve with relative ease throughout the match.
In the end, it turned out to be a lopsided encounter as Tauson won it quite comfortably with a score of 6-1, 6-4 in her favour.
Serrano v Tauson Prediction and Tip
Serrano enters this match as the overwhelming favourite. After all, she is on a seven match winning streak, including a title, while her opponent has no such experience.
There’s no doubt that Tauson is a player to watch out in the near future, but Serrano’s is supremely confident right now and beating her, when she is in great form, would need some doing. Expecting a Serrano win in two sets.
