Korda, A Quarter-Finalist in Miami

American Korda is continuing his steady rise up the world rankings. Ranked outside the top 500 at the end of 2018, he is in course to break into the top fifty at his current rate of progress.

He began the year strongly, reaching the final in Delray Beach before losing to the Ole Hubert Hurkasz. And then went many other of the top players in the world were competing at the Australia Open, he stayed in Europe and won the Challenger trophy in Quimper.

Second round appearances in Montpellier and Acapulco followed, before he competed in the Miami Open, where he reached the quarter-finals of  a Masters’ event for the first time, with a run that saw him claim the scalps of Fabio Fognini, Aslan Karatsev, and Diego Schwartzman before his progress was halted by Andrey Rublev.

This though will be his first match on clay since last year’s French Open where he reached the fourth round before coming up against the “King of Clay” himself, Rafael Nadal.

Bedene Not Known as a Clay Court Player

The Slovenian is not known for his liking of clay, although he did get to the third round of the French Open last October, before losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Since then, he has largely limited himself to hard courts, where his best results of the year prior to the start of the month had been two third round appearances. They came in the Melbourne warm-up event, the Great Ocean Road Open, and in Dubai, where he was eventually beaten by Kei Nishikori.

However, after losing to the same man in the second round in Miami, he emulated his previous best this year in Sardinia, again making it through to the third round before suffering defeat to the American, Taylor Fritz.

He did not compete in Monte Carlo and will hope to carve out a few surprise points in this clay court swing.

Korda v Bedene Prediction and Tip

Although Bedene is the higher-ranked player, Korda is the man in form in 2021, and he is tipped to make the second round in Belgrade.

Tip: Korda to win: 10/11 (bet365)
