Petra Kvitova v Jennifer Brady Head to Head

There have been two previous matches played between these two players and Kvitova has won both of them.

The first came at the 2019 Dubai Open where Kvitova needed three sets to get past her American opponent before the Czech crushed her in straight sets in the 2020 Brisbane International quarterfinal.

Kvitova Falls Early in Charleston

In her first clay court tournament since falling in the semifinal of the 2020 French Open, Kvitova won her second round match against Storm Sanders at the Charleston Open two weeks ago. However, going in a huge favourite against Danka Kovinic in the round three, Kvitova was blown away from the court in straight sets.

Kvitova managed to win just five games in her third round defeat to Kovinic despite being a 4/25 favourite in that match.

One can dismiss that loss to a freak result given Kvitova’s record on clay otherwise has been quite good, with the two-time Wimbledon winner having also won five of her WTA titles on clay.

The 2019 Stuttgart Open champion, however, has a very difficult opening round fixture against a player who only recently hit her career-best ranking of 13th in the world.

Brady’s Clay Form Under the Scanner

For a player who has moved up the WTA charts as quickly as Brady has, her form on clay has never been something to write home about.

The world number 14, who was a semifinalist at the US Open last year and went one better this season at the Australian Open with a title-deciding match appearance against Naomi Osaka, has barely won anything on dirt.

Brady finished last season with a first round loss at the French Open – her only match on clay – while in 2019 she had won a couple of rounds. Even those wins – at Prague and Roland-Garros – had taken a lot of effort.

Which is why the difference in their ranking wouldn’t be too much, with Brady’s 14th just four places behind Kvitova’s 10, but as far as odds go, there is only one winner here.

Kvitova v Brady Prediction and Tip

Kvitova is 2/5 to win this and 10/11 to do that in straight sets. Given Brady’s obvious issues on clay we think Kvitova shouldn’t have too many difficulties in this and get through without dropping a set.

Tip: Kvitova to win in straight sets: 10/11 (bet365)
