Zapata Miralles Comes from Behind in the First Round
Fognini’s adversary in the second round of the event is a Spaniard, who is currently ranked 147 in the world. The 24-year-old Zapata Miralles is an experienced player, who has been plying his trade on the Challenger circuit since a long time, but yet to gain prominence on the ATP tour.
However, Zapata Miralles has done well here in Barcelona as he has come through two tough qualifiers before winning his first round contest against Andrey Kuznetsov of Russia in a tight three setter.
In fact, at one point, Zapata Miralles had his back to the wall because Kuznetsov had won the opening set and was dominating the proceedings during the early part of the second set. But, somehow the Spaniard managed to turn things around to level the match at a set apiece.
Once Kuznetsov lost the second set, he lost all confidence and broke down completely. Zapata Miralles took advantage of the situation as he won the third set 6-1 and the match to move into the next round.
