Roberto Bautista Agut v Jannik Sinner Head to Head
World No. 19 Sinner has dominated his rivalry with Spain’s Bautista Agut, winning both their previous matches on the hard courts of Dubai and Miami in 2021.
While, there’s no doubt that results in both those matches could have gone either way, but Sinner went on to claim victories in extremely tight three setters after somehow managing to hold on to his nerves.

Bautista Agut 4-1 on Clay This Season
Bautista Agut, a counterpuncher with an excellent all-around game is known for his ‘no-frills’ style of play. In fact, the former World No. 9 works the ball beautifully around the court and drives his rivals crazy with his high level of consistency, giving away almost no free points.
The 33-year-old from Spain kickstarted his European clay court season by reaching the round of 16 at the Monte Carlo Masters. Bautista Agut beat the Americans Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul with relative ease in the first and the second rounds respectively. However, he failed to find a way past World No. Andrey Rublev, who got the better of him in three close sets.
Despite, Bautista Agut’s loss in Monaco, he arrived in Barcelona full of confidence because he knows that losing to Rublev is not at all disappointing at the moment as the Russian’s game is on an ascension right now.
Bautista Agut opened his bid for his maiden Barcelona title with a handsome 6-4, 6-0 win over his countryman Pablo Andujar on Tuesday. He would be doubly determined to perform at an extremely high level against his opponent Sinner, who has troubled him in the past. Surely, he would want to avenge his two defeats to the Italian, which he suffered in Dubai and Miami.

Nemesis Sinner Solid in 2021
While, there’s no doubt about the pedigree of Bautista Agut on any surface, Sinner too is an all-court player, who simply has the game to do well on clay, grass and the hard courts.
To tell the truth, 2021 has been the year to remember for the Italian so far. Sinner, who has accumulated a highly impressive 15-6 win/loss record this season, started the year with a title triumph in Melbourne before reaching back-to-back quarterfinals in Marseille and Dubai.
However, the biggest highlight of his excellent run was progressing through to the final of the Miami Masters. Actually, he could have won the Miami trophy quite easily, but he got complacent and eventually lost to the then 37th-ranked Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in two grueling sets.
Like Bautista Agut, Sinner was equally impressive in his win over Egor Gerasimov of Belarus, whom he dispatched in just over an hour in the first round. Moreover, by beating Agut twice in a row, he knows how to deal with his game. Yet again, he will look to execute his time tested plan to defeat the Spaniard.
Bautista Agut v Sinner Prediction and Tip
Sinner will be the heavy favourite to win this match as Bautista seems to have developed a mental block against the Italian. Even though, the Spaniard’s game looks unbreakable at times, Sinner has successfully broken it down in the past and that too, not once, but twice.
Tip: Sinner to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
