Schwartzman Returns from the Dead
Schwartzman should have never won his second round encounter against Frances Tiafoe. Here was a player lacking in confidence, fresh from a straight-set shellacking at the Monte Carlo Masters in round two and down in the dumps in this opener in the second round here in Barcelona.
Here was a player who was up a break in the first set, only to see his advantage disappear in a matter of minutes as he first lost his serve in the fourth game and then against in the eighth to allow Tiafoe to serve for the set.
Here was also a player who lost his serve early in the second set, and faced two break-points in the sixth game.
And here was one who saw Tiafoe serve for the match at 5-4 in the second set and yet he came through all of that and won the encounter in a three-setter!
In the end, Schwartzman turned things around in a jiffy like a magician showing a great sleight of hand, breaking back twice to win the second set and then again in the fourth and the sixth game of the third set to claim the match.
At times, it’s results like these which turn things around and Schwartzman will hope his corner has been turned following a string of middling results.

Moutet Putting Monte Carlo Behind
Ranked 75th in the world, Moutet was bundled out in the qualifiers of the Monte-Carlo Masters in the last tournament he played. Which is why when he started off against Dominik Koepfer in the first round here, he wasn’t quite the favourite to make it through the second round.
Not only did Moutet overcome Koepfer in straight sets, he then followed it up with one of the shock results of the competition when he sent Britain’s Dan Evans packing in the second.
Evans had made it all the way through to the semifinal last week in Monte-Carlo which included one of the biggest results of the season as he shocked Novak Djokovic in the third round.
But the Brit couldn’t get that A-game into this one and Moutet took full advantage to register a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 win over his opponent. His real test will come in the form of the world number nine Argentine but one who isn’t in the best of nicks.
Schwartzman v Moutet Prediction and Tip
Schwartzman’s comeback from behind win should give him some respite and some more confidence he belongs to this tour. Expecting him to carve out another victory here and in three sets.
Tip: Schwartzman to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
