Ash Barty v Karolina Pliskova Head to Head
There have been five previous matches between these two players and Barty leads Pliskova 3-2 on head to head. Barty has also won in their last two matches, including at the WTA Finals of 2019. There was also another match at the start of their match-ups on the ITF circuit which was won by Barty.
No previous match between Barty and Pliskova has come on clay.

World number one Barty came through in her second round match against Laura Siegemund, winning 6-0, 7-5 in an hour and 24 minutes.
Following a first round bye, Barty switched very quickly from hard court to clay as she raced off to three breaks of serve and completed the win in 24 minutes. It was in the second set that Barty needed to dig deep into the reserves, as she dropped serve in the third game.
While the world number one broke back to level it at 2-2, she missed out on four break-points and failed to break till the 11th game of the set. It was when Siegemund served to stay in the match that her nerves and Barty’s experience came to the fore and she converted her first match-point she got in the 12th game.
Barty had earlier crashed out in the quarterfinal of the Charleston Open, and she would be hoping she can kick on deeper on clay here, but has a tricky one here.

Pliskova Made to Work Again
After having been stretched to three sets by Tamara Korpatsch in the first round, Pliskova was forced into a three-setter by Jelena Ostapenko in the second round as well.
In a match lasting two hours and 25 minutes, Pliskova failed to take advantage of an early break of serve. She first dropped her serve in the eighth game and then frittered away a set-point in the tie-breaker before dropping the set.
Pliskova looked to have given away an early break advantage away, dropping her serve in the ninth game but then broke Ostapenko as she served to stay in the set. With her confidence back, Pliskova then broke Ostapenko in the sixth game of the third set and carried on serving to edge out a win.
The bigger test would be now as Pliskova looks to get past a higher quality opponent than the first two rounds. Given her recent form it would need a big turnaround in her fortunes.
Barty v Pliskova Prediction and Tip
Barty is 3/10 to win this and 5/6 to do that in straight sets. Expect Pliskova to push Barty but for the world number one to get through in straight sets.
