Stefanos Tsitsipas v Felix Auger-Aliassime Head to Head

There have been five previous matches played between these two players before this and Tsitsipas leads 3-2. Interestingly, the first two of these matches went in favourite Auger-Aliassime while Tsitsipas went on to clinch the next three in a row.

None of these matches came on clay, with one of their meetings having come in the final of the Marseille Open last season and more recently earlier this year at the Acapulco Open quarterfinal.

Tsitsipas Eases Past De Minaur

Since making it to the quarterfinal at the Miami Masters, Tsitsipas hasn’t lost a set. That’s seven matches on clay, seven matches won and not a set dropped.

The seventh of those matches came in the third round of this competition in Barcelona where Tsitsipas went past Alex De Minaur, winning 7-5, 6-3. Earlier, the Greek had routed Jaume Munar in the previous round, 6-0, 6-2.

Against De Minaur, Tsitsipas was tested in the first set but was never in the danger of losing his own serve. His issues were more centred around his inability get past his opponent’s serve, but even that changed in the 12th game as de Minaur served to stay in the set.

Tsitsipas broke off his second break-point in the game to wrap up the opener,

De Minaur responded with a break in the very first game but once Tsitsipas had levelled it off in the fourth game, there was no looking back. He broke the Aussie again in the eighth game, before completing the victory in the ninth off his third match-point.

The world number five will now look to make it his eighth win in a row against an opponent he has beaten three times in a row.

Auger-Aliassime Hastens Past Shapovalov

After getting pushed to a third set by Lorenzo Musetti in the first round, Auger-Aliassime needed a quicker match in the lead-up to one against one of the best players around at the moment. And that’s exactly what he got against Denis Shapovalov, who had gone into the encounter at 1/1 odds to win.

Auger-Aliassime defeated his Canadian counterpart in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 to march into quarterfinals, needing a mere 74 minutes to win.

It was a dominating performance from Auger-Aliassime, who faced just one break-point in the entire match – dropping serve in that – but not before he was 5-1 up in the first set.

In the second set, Auger-Aliassime got the early break, and then got himself four match-points on his opponent’s serve before completing the victory serving out on love.

By the looks of how things have gone in the past between him and Tsitsipas, it looks like Auger-Aliassime will need to overcome a mental barrier to go with his opponent’s good form to get past him.

Tsitsipas v Auger-Aliassime Prediction and Tip

The difference in the current quality and form between the two players can be seen from the fact Tsitsipas is 1/4 to win this while Auger-Aliassime starts 3/1. And while we believe the Greek is a favourite to register another straight-set win, we might see some sort of a fight from his opponent. Not sure if that would amount to a lot though.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets: 8/11 (bet365)
