Andrey Rublev v Jannik Sinner Head to Head
This is the second meeting between both players. Their only meeting thus far was in Vienna at the ATP 500 late last year where Sinner pulled out with an injury after Rublev was up 2-1 in the first set.

Rublev In Red Hot Form; But Missing Out on Titles
Andrey Rublev has been in phenomenal form of late, winning five titles in 2020, making his first ever Tour Finals and breaking into the top eight in the ATP rankings. He continued his strong run of form at the start of the season too, leading Russia to the finals of the ATP Cup, and was in ominous form at the Australian Open, until the quarter-finals where he ran into compatriot Daniil Medvedev and lost in straight sets.
The Russian added to his title count at Rotterdam winning another ATP 500, and looked the favorite in both the tournaments in the Middle-East, at Doha and Dubai as well at the Miami Open Masters 1000. But, surprise semi-final defeats to Roberto Bautista Agut in Doha and Aslan Karatsev in Dubai derailed his season ever so slightly, followed by another semi-final loss to eventual Miami champion Hubert Hurkacz.
Having won the ATP 500 on the Hamburg clay last year, Rublev started the clay season looking confident as he recorded impressive wins at the Monte Carlo Masters last week, and none bigger than defeating 11-time champion Rafael Nadal on the clay. However, an in-form Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated the Russian straight sets in the final and all of a sudden since the Rotterdam ATP 500, Rublev went into the championship weekend of four consecutive tournaments looking like the favorite, but falling short.
After a first round bye, Rublev won convincingly against little known Italian Federico Gaio, but had a tricky encounter against clay court veteran Albert Ramos-Vinalos prevailing in a decider. The Russian will be well aware of the challenges that lie ahead and will be eager to add to his silverware with a good run here this weekend.

Sinner Maintaining Consistency In Form
19-year-old Jannik Sinner from Italy has been earmarked as one of the Next Gen to look out for, but had a mixed start to the season. He looked very much on course, given his form at the start of the season ATP 250 in Melbourne, where he won his second career title. With the tightly packed schedule in Australia, the Italian ran into Denis Shapovalov in the first round of the Aussie Open and bowed out in a tough five-setter at the year’s first major.
An opening round loss to Aljaz Bedene in the Montpellier opener and suddenly the season was not looking so promising anymore. A minor niggle saw him pull of Rotterdam, but the Italian had a much better week in Marseille, before losing in the quarter-finals to the newly crowned world number two and eventual champion Daniil Medvedev.
With impressive wins in Dubai against Roberto Bautista Agut and Alexander Bublik, Sinner fell at the hands of eventual champion Aslan Karatsev, and arrived at the first Masters 1000 of the year in Miami hoping for a promising run. It was a promising week with wins against Karen Khachanov, Alexander Bublik, and Roberto Bautista Agut, before he fell short in the final against the in-form young Pole Hubert Hurkacz.
Falling short last week on the Monte Carlo clay against world number one Novak Djokovic, Sinner broke into the top twenty of the ATP rankings for the first time. the Italian has looked good this week at Barcelona with convincing wins against Egor Gerasimov and a third consecutive win against Roberto Bautista Agut and looks ready for bigger things going into the championship weekend.
Rublev v Sinner Prediction and Tip
It has been a very impressive year thus far for both players and both will be pleased with their performances thus far and how they have become a force on the tour over a short period of time. It will be a close match, down to who is better on the day and who plays the big points better.
Expect a great contest, but the more experienced Rublev may just close in a decider.
Tip: Rublev to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
