Rafael Nadal v Cameron Norrie Head to Head
These two players had met as recently as the 2021 Australian Open and Nadal had come through in straight sets to enter the fourth round. That was their only meeting.

Nadal Continues to Struggle
It has been a bizarre set of matches for Nadal who has gone into each one of his past three matches as a heavy favourite but been made to work very hard in those.
In the first of those three, which came at the Monte-Carlo Masters last week, Nadal fell to Andrey Rublev and then, in the two rounds here, he has already been taken to the third set each time.
First it was Ilya Ivashka in the second round of this tournament in Barcelona before Nadal was stretched into a third by Kei Nishikori in his latest outing. Making it worse for Nadal was the fact he had swept past Nishikori 6-0 in the first set only to drop the second in a surprising turn of events.
It took the experience of Nadal to come back from that loss of the second set to come through in two hours and 20 minutes.
He now takes on a player who has typically struggled on clay but already showing signs of a resurrection on dirt.

Norrie Continues Best Clay Run
Norrie has made it as far as the semifinal at a clay court event only once before and that was at an ATP 250 event in Lyon in 2018. Other than that, the Brit has struggled on dirt and for him to make it this far, a quarterfinal at this Barcelona event, is a big deal on its own.
It’s made doubly special by the fact he has gotten past Salvatore Caruso, Karen Khachanov and David Goffin to seal his place in the last eight.
Here he was aided a little by David Goffin’s injury despite having bagelled the Belgian in the first set; Norrie was down 3-5 in the second when his opponent called it off and gave the Brit a passage into the quarterfinal.
It won’t be easy going up against Nadal on clay – and that’s probably the understatement of the season – but given how things have gone for the Spaniard in recent times, Norrie might entertain a possibility of an upset.
Nadal v Norrie Prediction and Tip
It continues to be Nadal starting out as a humongous favourite to win at 1/25 and that’s a safe bet at most times on clay. Especially more so against a player who isn’t known for his prowess on this surface. And while he has been scrappy so far this season, Nadal should be a safe bet to win in straight sets too.
Tip: Nadal to win in straight sets: 1/5 (bet365)
