Tennys Sandgren v Pablo Cuevas Head to Head

Sandgren Hoping to Better Clay Show
It’s not been the best of starts to the season for the American Sandgren having won just two rounds so far – the opener at the Great Ocean Road at the start of the year and another one at the Miami Open against the 100th-ranked Pedro Martinez.
His remaining five matches, including the first qualifying round at Barcelona Open last week have all resulted in defeats.
Add the fact here that Sandgren has struggled to do too much of note on clay in recent times. In 2020 for instance, his only win in the main draw of clay events came at the French Open while in the season before that he was more involved at the Challenger circuit.
What Sandgren will hope for is to is to put up a stronger fight, because to be fair to him, some of his earlier defeats in 2021 did come against some really tough opposition. His opponent here is ranked 83rd in the world.

Cuevas Returns After a Break
It looked like the 35-year-old Cuevas had made a solid start to the season when despite being forced into a longer quarantine before the Australian Open, he made it to third round at Great Ocean Road Open and second round at the season’s first Grand Slam.
Unfortunately for him, Cuevas hasn’t played a single match since then. He was expected to start at the Serbia Open earlier this week but pulled out and will now hope he can return back to the game after more than two months without a lot of rustiness.
Cuevas should feel at home playing on the clay courts of this Munich Open with some of his best results having also come on this surface. The only time, for instance, he made it as far as third round at a Grand Slam was in Roland-Garros where he has done that four times.
He has also won a doubles Grand Slam final with Luis Horna at French Open and was a title-winner at the Italian Open and Monte-Carlo Masters in the same category.
Singles is a different ball game but if Cuevas can shrug off early rustiness he would do well.
Sandgren v Cuevas Prediction and Tip
Nothing to choose between Sandgren and Cuevas with both starting out at 10/11. One is out of form, the other has been out of action. Going with the latter to win this.
Tip: Cuevas to win: 10/11 (bet365)
