Corentin Moutet v Marcus Giron Head to Head

Prior to last week. Moutet had played little tennis in 2021. He began in Australia where he reached the semi-final of the Murray River event, and then got to the second round in the Australian Open itself, losing to Milos Raonic.
He did not reappear in a competitive match until he failed to qualify for Monte Carlo.
However, he made up for lost time with an encouraging week in Barcelona.
He began with a good win over the German, world ranked 54 Dominik Koepfer, and then beat Dan Evans, the semi-finalist from Monte Carlo, battling past the British player in three sets.
His run was ended by Diego Schwartzman in a straight set defeat, but playing on clay, his favourite surface, he will be hooping for another good week in Portugal.

Giron in His First Clay Match of 2021
For the American Giron, this will be his first match of 2021 on clay, preferring to stick to hard courts where he has enjoyed nearly all his success ass tennis player. All 12 of his finals on the junior tour came on that surface, including his eight wins.
His best result in 3201 came right at the start of the year in the Melbourne warm-up event, the Murray River Open, where he got to the third round before losing to the eventual winner Dan Evans.
However, Giron had the misfortune to be drawn against Alexander Zverev in the first round of the Australian Open and then was beaten in the first round in Montpellier as well.
The American came through two rounds of qualifying in Rotterdam, to earn himself a draw with Andrey Rublev, but that match ended in defeat as well.
Giron did though break that sequence in Miami, beating first compatriot Tommy Paul, before his run was ended by fellow American Taylor Fritz. He has not played since.

Because of his familiarity and ease on clay, Moutet is the overwhelming favourite to win this match, probably in straight sets.
