Alejandro Fokina v Pablo Andujar Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in 2019 at the Marbella Challenger of 2019 and that clay court encounter was won by Andujar in a gruelling three-setter.

Coming into the Barcelona Open on the back of a quarterfinal appearance at the Monte-Carlo Masters, Fokina was a heavy favourite in his opening round match there against Alexander Bublik.
When Fokina won his opening set in that opener, the odds looked to have tilted heavily in his favour but Bublik then turned things around to carve out a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over the Spaniard in what turned out to be an upset result.
Earlier this clay swing, Fokina had made it as far as the second round in Marbella because he was stunned again – this time at the hands of Ilya Ivashka, who was 14/5 to win this one.

Andujar Misfiring after Promising Start
Andujar looked like he had made a solid start on clay for this season when he defeated Juan Igancio Londero and Gianluca Mager in the first two rounds at Buenos Aires but since then his form has fallen away.
A quarterfinal defeat there was followed by back to back opening losses in Santiago and Monte-Carlo, and following a first round victory in Barcelona, he was a 6-4, 6-0 loser to Roberto Bautista-Agut in second round there.
A defeat to Alexei Popyrin at the Monte-Carlo Masters would have hurt even more so because of the manner in which it came – Andujar had gotten off firing all cylinders in the opening set there, winning it 6-0 but lost his way in the next two.
