Kevin Anderson v Frances Tiafoe Head to Head
There have been four previous matches between these players and Anderson leads 3-1 with all of the four matches having come on indoor and outdoor hard-court surfaces. The last of these matches came at the 2019 Australian Open where Tiafoe finally pulled one back after losing three in a row.

Injury issues from 2019 have turned Anderson’s career for the worse and his efforts in the more recent times his attempts have been to get back to full match fitness. And get back into the rhythm of winning matches.
In 2019, he played just 16 matches, and ended with a win-loss of 11-5, while last season, a combination of fitness concerns and the pandemic-related break meant he was on court for just 20 matches. He ended on a 10-10 record.
This year, Anderson’s appearances have been restricted to five matches – all of which have come on hard court surfaces – and Anderson has won just two of them. Those two victories came early at the Great Ocean Road Open, his first tournament appearance of the season.
Since then, however, he has lost three in a row – a third round defeat at the same tournament followed by opening round defeats at the Australian Open and Miami Masters. A change to a surface he doesn’t enjoy wouldn’t help too much either.

Tiafoe 3-3 on Clay
Tiafoe’s results seem to have moved towards the more consistent variety this season but he would still prefer getting better than the 3-3 win-loss record he has had on clay this season.
Following on from his solid performance at the Miami Masters where he reached fourth round before falling to Daniil Medvedev, Tiafoe featured at the Barcelona Open last week. That was his third tournament on clay this year and for the third time he ended up losing in second round.
Earlier losses at the same stage included the tournaments in Buenos Aires and Santiago, at the hands of Jaume Munar and Facundo Bagnis.
He has an easy opener here despite his opponent’s solidity on other surfaces but Tiafoe’s bigger test would be to push on from second round onward.
Anderson v Tiafoe Prediction and Tip
This should be a straightforward win for Tiafoe who is more of a clay-courter than Anderson and having played much more than the South African as well.
