Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Jeremy Chardy Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2019 Estoril Open where Fokina had destroyed Chardy 6-1, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinal stage. They meet again in the same tournament at the same stage!

Playing Pablo Andujar in his opening round encounter, Fokina had started off a 2/5 favourite but the match didn’t prove to be as straightforward for the Spaniard. In a match which lasted two hours and 26 minutes, Fokina needed three sets to come through 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 to move to second round.
Fokina was off to a flier, breaking his opponent in the second and sixth game of the opening set. While he was broken in the very next game, Fokina shrugged that off by serving for the set at 5-3.
Andujar did get an early break in the second but when Fokina levelled things out at 4-4, it seemed like he was on his way to an easy victory. Except that Andujar broke back as Fokina served to stay in the set and claimed the set to make it a set apiece.
The good news for Fokina is he refused to relent, breaking his opponent thrice in a row to complete a facile win in the end.
This came on the back of an opening exit in Barcelona and a quarterfinal appearance at the Monte-Carlo Masters played earlier this month.

Chardy Shocks Munar in Opener
Jaume Munar was a 1/2 favourite in his opening round match against Chardy but the Frenchman came back from a set down to clinch a stunning win over the Spanish player.
The two players exchanged breaks of serves in the first six games of the opening set before Munar broke his opponent again in the eighth game and then warded off four break-points in the ninth before clinching the set.
Chardy came back strongly with back to back breaks in the second set and while he lost his serve once, that was enough to level the proceedings.
The Frenchman, who had earlier also made it to round two in Monte Carlo and Barcelona, then exchanged four breaks of serves in the third set to take the score to 4-4. The match looked to be headed into a final set tie-breaker but a stunning break for Chardy in the ninth game followed by the world number 51 serving it out for the match ended the Munar resistance.
