Swiatek Returns to Clay

She is a French Open winner, winning the title last season without dropping a set. Swiatek now returns to clay for the first time since lifting that trophy at Roland-Garros as she looks to begin building up to her title defence of French Open.

And Swiatek has already showed her capabilities this season in the manner in which she has adapted to hard court surfaces.

Starting out the season with a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open, Swiatek then went on to win her second career title – French Open 2020 was her first – when she routed Belinda Bencic in the final at Adelaide International.

The Polish player, who is two places off her best ranking at the moment, will now hope to kick-start her clay campaign with a win dominant enough to send warning signals to her opponents.

Riske Hoping to Resume with Solid Showing

Riske, who is now ranked 27th in the world, had admitted that while she loved her time off from tennis during the pandemic break, it also messed her game up. Which is why Riske finished the previous season on a 1-4 record in the second half of the season, having just won in the first round of US Open.

The American has managed to play just one match whole of this season, having lost to Anastasia Potapova in the opening round at the Australian Open.

As far as her showing on clay is concerned, Riske is a novice, having really struggled to get going on dirt. In the past two seasons, starting from 2019, Riske has participated in multiple tournaments and in the six matches she has played, Riske has won none.

With rustiness a factor anyway, Riske’s poor clay court record means she will be hugely second favourite coming into this encounter.

Swiatek v Riske Prediction and Tip

It seems like a straight-set win looks most likely here for Swiatek as she looks to continue from where she left off on clay last season

Tip: Swiatek to win in straight sets: 1/4 (bet365)
