Jennifer Brady v Venus Williams Head to Head

This will be the first match between the 14th-ranked Brady and the world number 91 Venus Williams.

Brady Begins Clay with a Loss

As strong as Brady’s performances on hard court surfaces have been, she hasn’t done as well on clay right throughout her career.

Last year, for instance, Brady fell in the first round of the French Open, losing to the little-known, teenager Clara Tauson in a tough three-setter. In 2019, she had won a couple of main draw matches, one apiece in Prague and Paris, but fell to defeats in four others while the year before that had seen her win just one.

And it’s not like Brady has begun too well this season either, losing her first round at Stuttgart but to be fair to her, the American did not have the easiest opening match there.

Playing the defending champion Petra Kvitova, Brady went down in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 and will now be hoping for some kind of a reversal. Not the easiest opponent up against her though.

Venus Continues to Hope for Consistency

The multiple Grand Slam winner Venus Williams hasn’t been doing much by the way of consistency in recent times, and even this year, the 40-year-old has won just two matches spread across three tournaments.

She began with a second round loss to Petra Kvitova at the Yarra Valley Classic and then hobbled to a 6-1, 6-0 loss at the hands of Sara Errani in the second round of the Australian Open. And then facing Zarina Diyas in Miami, Venus was put to the sword yet again and went down fighting in straight sets.

What makes things worse for Venus is her lack of matches on clay. This year she is yet to play one on dirt while last year the former world number lost both her first round matches on that surface, losing in Rome and at Roland-Garros.

In fact it was in 2019, at Rome that Venus won her last match on clay, an opening round victory over Elise Mertens but since that day she has played and lost all four. And while Brady isn’t at her best on clay, Venus will have to adapt strongly to get a move on.

Brady v Venus Prediction and Tip

Not surprisingly, Brady is a favourite but the match could see a bit of a fight and the games market looks ripe for the taking.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
